Daily 16: Blu

Another character in the works from my fairy tales (still working on that title) universe. Blu is the younger brother of the Big Bad and Red's (grudgingly) best friend. This character has been around in my head for awhile, still working on getting his design fully fleshed out, so far so good.

Daily 15: Red Revamp

Been playing around with revamping the design for my character Red. Biggest change = custom chucks, oh yeah.

Daily 14: Alphonse

Been going through FMA: brotherhood recently, soooo awesome. Lots of likable characters but Al definitely takes top slot on my list.

Daily 11: Black Mamba

An ode to one of my all time favorite action heros: the Bride (AKA Black Mamba). I had a lot of fun playing around with some of the shapes in this one, I think I'm starting to get a bit more adventurous in that regard. It's so much fun when you can let go of certain aspects of anatomy in order to push the overall design further. Really looking forward to slapping some color on this when I get the time.

Daily 10: Figure

Been playing around with more brush settings these last few days. So far I'm finding a lot of nice little subtleties that I've been missing out on when drawing out of photoshop. It's been a long time since I've done a traditional figure drawing and boy did creating this make me realise how much I miss those classes. Created in 25 minutes while listening to some of Vitamin String Quartet's lovely violins.

Daily 09: Wolverine

Just something fun and quick to test out some new brush settings. Finding that elusive digital brush that feels 'right' has been a struggle of mine, but I believe I'm getting closer. I've also had some coloring methods brewing in my noggin so I may give this another pass with some color techniques. We shall see.

Daily 07: Gemini Man

Ahh Gemini Man, where to begin?

They say you were built to be a mining bot, but that just can't be right. I mean, if your name was Pickaxe Man I'd understand, but what does a constellation have to do with mining? Am I missing something? And why does your crown...er helmet, look like a mean rip of our lady liberty? And why, pre-tell, is your level littered with bubbles? I mean bubbles? Really? Shouldn't bubbles be reserved for, uh, Bubble Man or somebody?? And why why why are they filled with seamen-like creatures??? What's up with that, yo?

This guy is just plain weird... and I kinda love it.

But don't bring up the whole recent horoscope shift snafu thats been on the news, he's a bit disturbed by no longer being a Gemini. Frankly, I think it falls right in line with the rest of his resume.

I've decided to start posting reference shots of the original character designs so you guys have an idea of my jumping point with the designs. Image courtesy of The Megaman Network.

Daily 06: Wood Man

Bad artist is bad. Really bad.

I promise to do better with this whole blogging thing now that we're firmly over the holiday bump. Also, no more finals. Which means the return of my sanity. Which means a surplus of free time. Which means more art. And, well, you get my drift here right?

Good.

I previously mentioned the idea of pursuing a robot masters series, and doggonit, when I say I'm going to do something I mean it! Unless it's a promise of daily blog posts....

Picking the robot master for this installment was frustratingly difficult as Mega Man II is by far my favorite of the series. It's the quintessential Mega Man game. There are no Centaur Men here. Every robot master has a level of cool all their own. Yes, even you Bubble Man. In the end I had to choose Wood Man, because really, who can resist a robot made of wood?
